Arbitration, both domestic and international, forms a major part of Arshad’s practice. The bulk of his work has an international dimension, either involving foreign clients or legal or arbitral proceedings in other jurisdictions. He has been or is involved in arbitrations taking place in New York, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Oman, the UAE, Qatar, India and Indonesia. Arshad has, in addition, experience of investment treaty arbitration having been retained in respect of proceedings before ICSID in respect of a claim under the UK-Kenya BIT.

In 2010 Arshad commenced sitting as an arbitrator, receiving 3 party nominations for arbitrations proceeding in the Indian energy sector, for example concerning a dispute arising under a contract for the supply of power machines.He also continues to be involved in various shipping arbitrations under LMAA rules.  

His main areas of expertise are commercial and international litigation, arbitration and mediation; European Union; shipping and aviation, and corporate. He also has particular expertise in the energy sector.

Arshad has very strong personal and professional links with law firms and practices in South Asia and the Middle East, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and the Sultanate of Oman, and travels regularly to these jurisdictions.

Arshad is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and on the panels of various arbitral institutions, including the KLRCA and the CRCICA. Arshad is recommended as a leading junior in international arbitration by Legal 500 (2013) in which he is described as having a highly analytical mind’, and as someone who ‘builds a good rapport with clients’.
